Qualifying Study

A- Graduates of practical (theoretical) faculties who wish to increase their professional competence in one of the fields

B- The student studies at this stage 12 credit hours from level 400 determined by the concerned department, and the courses are at the level of the bachelor’s stage (or bachelor’s degree), which he has not studied before

C- The maximum period of qualifying study is one year

Preliminary study

A- Students who have a bachelor’s degree (or licentiate) from Egyptian universities or the equivalent of the Supreme Council of Universities in all disciplines are enrolled in it. B – The student studies at this stage 12 credit hours from level 500 according to the internal regulations of the college and the available courses. C- The maximum period of preliminary study is one year.

Diplomas

Article (20): Enrollment conditions and rules for granting the Diploma of Advanced Professional Studies

A- Graduates of practical (theoretical) faculties who have successfully passed the qualifying study, as well as all students who have a bachelor’s degree (or bachelor’s degree) or its equivalent in a diploma field, join it.

B- Sohag University grants at the request of the Faculty Council…. Diploma in Advanced Professional Studies in the following specializations. The name of the diploma and the branch of specialization shall be specified in the graduation certificate: 1- Diploma in Advanced Professional Studies in….. . 2- Diploma in Advanced Professional Studies in….. .

C- The student studies courses from level 500, the number of hours is 18 credit hours.

D- The maximum period for studying the Advanced Professional Studies Diploma is one year. e- This stage is considered an expired stage, and it does not allow its graduates to apply to study for any other stages.

Article (21): Enrollment conditions and rules for awarding postgraduate diploma:

A- A student who has successfully completed all preliminary study courses, as well as all students who have a bachelor’s degree (or bachelor’s degree) or its equivalent in a diploma field, are enrolled in this stage.

B- The student studies courses from level 500, the number of hours is 18 credit hours.

D- Sohag University grants at the request of the Faculty Council…. Postgraduate Diploma in specializations shown in Table No. (2). The name of the diploma and the branch of specialization shall be specified in the graduation certificate.

Article (22): Other specialized diplomas:

Postgraduate diplomas may be created in specializations other than those mentioned in Article (20), provided that the department concerned proposes the diploma and its academic courses and scientific content and approves them by the College Council and the University Council before the start of the study in sufficient time to allow announcing it in the month of March of the year of the start of the study and the College Council if It decides to hold an entrance examination for students and to determine the number of students for each diploma according to the capabilities of the department.

Article (23):

Joint diplomas: The College Council may create joint diplomas, which are shared by more than one department. In this case, the College Council forms a council for each joint diploma headed by the Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research and membership of the heads of departments involved in supervision or their representatives. This council has the authority of the department council to supervise study affairs. In joint diplomas, the college council determines in the month of March of each year postgraduate diplomas in which studies will be opened in the following academic year. Table No. (2):

Masters

Article (24): Conditions of registration In addition to the conditions mentioned in Article (3), the following is required for a student to be enrolled for a master’s degree:

A- To have a bachelor’s degree (or BA) with at least a good general grade in the specialization branch from one of the faculties of ….. Egyptian universities or any equivalent degree from any other institute recognized by the Supreme Council of Universities.

B- The college council may, based on the recommendation of the concerned department council, accept the enrollment of a student for a master’s degree if he holds a bachelor’s degree (or bachelor’s degree)……. With a general grade of less than good, in addition to one of the graduate studies diplomas from one of the colleges ……..recognized by the Supreme Council of Universities, with a general grade of at least good.

C- The College Council may, based on the recommendation of the concerned department council, accept non-Egyptian students who have a bachelor’s degree (or licentiate) in ……. From any college or institute recognized by the Supreme Council of Universities.

D- Students applying for a master’s degree and holding a bachelor’s degree (or licentiate) in a field other than the required major may be enrolled after taking the preliminary courses exam that may be required by the concerned department. These hours are not counted among the hours mentioned in Article (26).

Article (25): Duration of study

A- The minimum period for obtaining a master’s degree is two years from the date of enrollment.

B – The maximum period for obtaining a master’s degree is five years from the date of enrollment, taking into account cases of suspension of enrollment. The period may be extended for another period based on the proposal of the main supervisor (supervision committee) and the approval of the concerned department council, the graduate studies and research committee, and the college council.

Article (26): Master’s degree in

A- Sohag University grants, based on the proposal of the College Council, a master’s degree in ……. The system of courses and research in the specialties of the various departments, and the name of the relevant department (and specialization) and the title of the research are indicated in the certificate.

B- The concerned department determines the courses for the student that are appropriate to the subject of the research from among the courses approved by the College Council so that they are not less than 30 credit hours of code 600 at least, and the Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research approves these courses

C- After completing the study of 24 credit hours with a GPA of no less than 3.0, the student may prepare an applied research that will be evaluated as 6 credit hours in a subject determined by the main supervisor (supervision committee) and approved by the relevant department council, the Postgraduate Studies and Research Committee, and the College Council.

D- The research is evaluated by a committee formed by the concerned department, and in its evaluation the points obtained by the research are determined to be included within the average score.

E- The student who does not achieve points of at least 3.0 in the research hours must resubmit the research and be treated as courses in his account within the points average and in the registration fees.

F-The student must pass the TOEFL test in the English language before starting the preparation of the research, with a score of at least 450 degrees, or the equivalent of this exam from the internationally recognized English language exams. prior to the date of enrollment for the degree.

G- The student obtains a master’s degree in ……. After successfully completing the studies requirements with a GPA of no less than 3.0, he may repeat some courses or study other courses to improve the GPA.

 

The concerned department council may agree to amend the research field at the request of the main supervisor, and that amendment is approved by the Postgraduate Studies and Research Committee and the College Council. This shall not result in a breach of the time periods stipulated in Article (25).

I- The concerned department council may assign the student to pass some of the courses that the main supervisor determines for him from among the courses in the department from the undergraduate level or code 500 or that are taught in other departments of the college or in one of the faculties or institutes of Sohag University or recognized foreign universities, on condition Not to exceed a total of eight (8) credit hours.

These hours are not counted for the student within the approved hours mentioned in Paragraph (b) of this article. J- Studying with this degree is completed and does not require a full-time study.

Article (27): Master’s degree in Science

A- Sohag University grants, based on the proposal of the departments council and the approval of the college council, a master’s degree in science … by the thesis system in the specializations of the various departments of the college, and the name of the department (and specialization) and the title of the thesis are indicated in the certificate.

B – The concerned department determines the courses for the student that are appropriate to the topic of the thesis from among the courses approved by the College Council, so that they are not less than 18 credit hours of code 600 at least, and the Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research approves these courses.

C- After completing the study of 12 credit hours with a GPA of no less than 3.0, the student may prepare a scientific thesis that will be evaluated as 18 credit hours in a subject determined by the main supervisor (supervision committee) and approved by the relevant department council, the Graduate Studies and Research Committee, and the College Council.

D- Before starting to prepare the dissertation, the student must pass the TOEFL exam in the English language with a score of at least 450, or the equivalent of this exam from the internationally recognized English language exams. Years prior to the date of his registration for the degree.

E- The student does not apply to discuss the dissertation before passing all the courses successfully, with a GPA of not less than 3.0, and he may repeat some courses or study other courses to improve the average.The concerned department council may agree to amend the thesis title at the request of the main supervisor, and that amendment is approved by the Postgraduate Studies and Research Committee and the College Council. This does not result in a breach of the time periods stipulated in Article (25).

G- The relevant department council may assign the student to pass some of the courses that the main supervisor determines for him from among the courses in the department from the undergraduate level (or BA) or code 500 or that are taught in other departments in the college or in one of the faculties or institutes of Sohag University or universities recognized foreign students, provided that their total does not exceed eight (8) credit hours. These hours are not counted for the student within the credit hours mentioned in Paragraph (b) of this article.

H – The publication of a scientific paper extracted from the contents of the dissertation must be accepted in a specialized and refereed scientific journal or in a specialized scientific conference and evidence of publication or acceptance for publication must be submitted.

I- Obtaining this degree qualifies the student to take the comprehensive examination required for registration for the Ph.D.

Article (28): Course Equivalency

The College Council may, based on the proposal of the concerned department council and the approval of the Graduate Studies and Research Committee of the College, calculate courses at the level of postgraduate studies for at least a Master’s degree, and in the same specialization, and the student has previously studied them at the College or in a scientific institute recognized by the Supreme Council of Universities and succeeded in them with a grade of good at least within five years years preceding his enrollment in a master’s degree, provided that the number of hours for these courses does not exceed eight (8) credit hours.

Article (29): Grant conditions

A- Accepting the thesis (or research) from the judging committee and recommending the award of the degree. Article (30): Cancellation of registration The College Council cancels the enrollment of a student for a master’s degree in … or a master’s degree in science … in the following cases:

A- Obtaining a general grade of less than good in the academic courses.

B- His interruption of his studies or his lack of seriousness in the research, with the approval of the concerned department council and the Postgraduate Studies and Research Committee, based on a report from the main supervisor (or the supervision committee).

C- The judging committee’s rejection of the thesis (or research) and its recommendation not to grant the degree.

D- Not granting the degree during the periods stipulated in Article (30) of the regulations, taking into account the cases of suspension of enrollment.

E- Submitting an application to cancel his registration.

F- Failure to pay the prescribed fees in accordance with the rules regulating this, and this does not apply to teaching assistants, research students, and scholarship students.

PHD

Article (31): Study Branches: Sohag University grants, based on the proposal of the College Council ………. Doctor of Philosophy degree in …….. by studying in the scientific departments shown in Table No. (1).

The certificates shall indicate the name of the department (and specialization) and the title of the thesis. Article (33): Registration Conditions: Taking into account the provisions of Article (3) of these regulations, the following is required for a doctoral student to be enrolled:

A- He has a master’s degree in science… in the same specialty from one of the colleges of… At Egyptian universities or any equivalent degree from another scientific institute recognized by the Supreme Council of Universities.

B- To submit an application to the Dean of the College for his enrollment after the approval of one of the professors or assistant professors to supervise, and present the request to the concerned department council to approve supervision and determine the field of research, then present the matter – after completing all the documents – to the Postgraduate Studies and Research Committee, then the College Council.

Article (33):

Study Duration: A- The minimum period for obtaining a doctoral degree is two years from the date of enrollment.

B – The maximum period for obtaining a doctoral degree is five years from the date of registration, taking into account the cases of suspension of registration. The enrollment may be extended for another period based on the proposal of the main supervisor (supervision committee) and the approval of the concerned department council, the graduate studies and research committee, and the college council.,taking into account the provisions contained in Article (15) of these regulations, the supervision of the doctoral student may be joint between the members of the supervision committee from Sohag University and another supervisor from one of the foreign universities or institutes recognized by the Supreme Council of Universities. In this case, the supervision committee may be  a maximum of four members.

Article (35): The study plan for the doctorate

A- Sohag University grants, based on the proposal of the College Council, the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in ….. in the specializations of the various departments of the college, and the name of the scientific department (and specialization) and the title of the thesis are indicated in the certificate.

B – The student studies courses from level 600, the number of hours is 18 credit hours, determined by the concerned department, based on the proposal of the Supervision Committee, the approval of the Graduate Studies and Research Committee, and the approval of the College Council.After completing the study of 12 credit hours with a grade of no less than 3.0, the student prepares a scientific thesis that is evaluated as 30 credit hours in a subject determined by the main supervisor (supervision committee) and approved by the concerned department council, the graduate studies and research committee, and the college council.

C- The student does not apply to discuss the thesis before passing all the courses or studying other courses to improve the GPA.E – The relevant department council may approve the modification of the thesis title at the request of the main supervisor, and that modification shall be approved by the Postgraduate Studies and Research Committee and the College Council. This does not result in a breach of the time periods stipulated in Article (33). In this case, the concerned department council may, in the event that the change is substantial, assign the student to pass some additional courses of level 600 at least, determined for him by the main supervisor from among the courses in the department or Those studying in other departments of the college or in one of the faculties or institutes of Sohag University or recognized foreign universities, provided that their total does not exceed eight (8) credit hours.

These hours are not counted for the student within the approved hours mentioned in Paragraph (b) of this article.f-

The student shall pass the TOEFL exam in the English language with a score of at least 500, and the student may be exempted from this exam if he submits proof of his success at this average during the four years preceding the date of his enrollment for the Ph.D. G- The student shall pass the comprehensive qualifying exam within a period not exceeding one year from the beginning of enrollment for this exam.

H – The main supervisor of the student determines a field of research and it is approved by the relevant department council and the Graduate Studies and Research Committee at the college. The student submits a letter with the results of the research so that it represents a new addition in the specialization branch, taking into account the time periods stipulated in Article (33) of the regulations.

I- The relevant department council may, upon a request from the main supervisor, agree to amend the research field only once during the doctoral studies. This may be done without changing the supervisors. This amendment is approved by the College Graduate Studies and Research Committee and the College Council. This amendment does not result in Violation of the time periods stipulated in Article (33) of the Regulations.

Article (36): Course Equivalency:

The college council may, based on the proposal of the relevant department council, calculate courses with code 600 or higher that the student has previously studied at the college or at a scientific institute recognized by the Supreme Council of Universities and succeeded in them with at least a good grade during the five years preceding the preliminary enrollment, provided that the number of hours of these courses does not exceed 9 credit hours.

Article (37): The comprehensive qualifying exam:

A- The college council approves the examiners’ committee for the comprehensive qualifying exam for the doctoral student, based on the approval of the concerned department council and the approval of the college graduate studies and research committee. The committee consists of four professors or assistant professors who specialize in the general field of research, provided that at least one of the members is from outside the department, in addition to the main supervisor.

B- The committee will develop a comprehensive qualifying exam that includes: A written exam in the areas of general and specific specialization. The committee determines the method of the exam, and allocates four credit hours for it.An oral exam, for which one credit hour is allocated, and includes:

Topics of general specialization.

Sub specialty topics.

–  Search Plan.

C- If the student fails in the comprehensive qualifying exam, he can re-apply for the exam at a date determined by the Examiners Committee, provided that it is not less than one month and not more than three months from the date of the exam.

Article (38): Conditions for awarding the degree:

Based on the recommendation of the concerned department council and the Graduate Studies and Research Committee of the college, the College Council recommends granting the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in ……… in the event that the student fulfills the following conditions:

A- At least two years have passed since the date of registration.B- Accepting the thesis from the judging committee and recommending granting the degree. C- Accepting the publication of two scientific papers extracted from the contents of the dissertation in a specialized and refereed journal or in a specialized and refereed conference and submitting evidence of publication or acceptance for publication. Article (39): Cancellation of registration: The College Council cancels the student’s registration for a doctoral degree in one of the following cases: A- His interruption of studies or his lack of seriousness in research, with the approval of the relevant department council and the approval of the Postgraduate Studies and Research Committee, and based on a report from the supervisor (Supervision Committee). B- Failing the comprehensive exam in accordance with Paragraph (C) of Article (37) of the Regulations. C- If the referee committee rejects the thesis.d- If the degree is not granted within the period stipulated in Paragraph (b) of Article (33) of the Regulations. E – If he applied to cancel his registration for a doctoral degree. F- If he did not pay the prescribed tuition fees on the date specified for that in these regulations, and this item does not apply to assistant teachers, research students, and scholarship students at the university and other universities.

Special study programs

Article (40):

Retail Study:

A- The College Council may, based on the relevant department council and the approval of the Postgraduate Studies and Research Committee, accept students who meet the conditions of enrollment for postgraduate studies set out in these bylaws to attend a course (or more) of the postgraduate studies courses in the College and to apply for its exams in return for specific tuition fees for each course and in case of success

B-The student in the course will be granted a certificate stating that after paying the prescribed fees, but he will not be granted a diploma or a university degree (Master’s – PhD).

When such a student applies in the future for enrollment in one of the postgraduate diplomas, the College Council may, based on the approval of the relevant department council and the approval of the Postgraduate Studies and Research Committee, approve the calculation of the course (or courses) in which the student has previously succeeded with at least a good grade within the requirements for awarding the diploma. And so that the number of credit hours calculated does not exceed eight (8) CREDIT hours, provided that no more than five years have passed since studying the courses that are approved for counting. This does not apply to applicants for master’s or doctoral degrees.Article (41): Exchange Programs:

A- The Faculty Council may, based on the approval of the concerned department council and the approval of the Postgraduate Studies and Research Committee, allow postgraduate students to study some postgraduate courses in foreign universities associated with Sohag University through cultural agreements or foreign universities recognized by the Supreme Council of Universities.

These courses are counted within the requirements for awarding the degree, provided that the number of hours for these courses does not exceed eight (8) credit hours, and provided that no more than five years have passed since they were studied.

B- The College Council may, based on the approval of the concerned department council and the approval of the Postgraduate Studies and Research Committee, allow foreign students enrolled in foreign universities linked to cultural agreements with Sohag University to study some postgraduate courses in the College and be granted a certificate approved by the College as a result of the exam. Article (42):

Continuing Education:

A- The College Council may, after the approval of the University Council, organize study or applied courses at the level of postgraduate studies for continuing education aimed at raising the scientific level of workers in various fields … or developing specific skills. The College Council determines the duration of these courses and their programs based on the recommendation of the concerned department council. National and foreign scientific societies, institutions and concerned bodies may also participate in organizing these courses

.B- These courses or studies are not followed by the granting of any academic degrees, although it is possible to hold exams at the end of them and submit a certificate of completion of a course approved by the college after paying the prescribed fees.

This section contains the title page, the appreciation, acknowledgment and dedication page, the jury page, and the table of contents.

Title Page: This page contains the following: The full title of the message.The full name of the student.The advanced academic degree.The name of the college and university to which the research was submitted.Supervisor’s name and academic degree (and assistant supervisor, if any).Month and year of submission.The title should be written with one space between the lines, and it should be brief and descriptive of what the message contains, while avoiding the use of words such as study, research, analysis ……. In the title, because the thesis in itself is research, extrapolation and analysis, and the arbitrators have the right to amend the title of the thesis.

Acknowledgment

On this page, thanks and appreciation must be given to the supervision committee, the institution in which the research was conducted, the party or parties that contributed to the financing of the research and study, and everyone who contributed to facilitating the researcher’s task, whether they were individuals or institutions.
