Postgraduate exams

(1) Paragraph 18 of Article 35 of Law 49 states:

The Council of Postgraduate Studies and Research has the competence to set dates for postgraduate examinations in the university’s faculties and institutes.

(b) The internal regulations of the colleges and institutes affiliated to the university, each within its jurisdiction and within the general framework established in the law and in the executive regulations, determine the internal structure of its composition and the detailed provisions of the registration, study and examination systems in their regard.

(2) Article 96 of the executive regulations states:

The student’s success in postgraduate exams is estimated by one of the following estimates:

(excellent – very good – good – fair).

As for the student’s failure, it shall be assessed by one of the following two assessments:

 (weak – very weak)

The application of the previous grades shall be in accordance with the system determined by the internal regulations. If the exam in one of the courses includes a written exam and another oral or practical exam, then the one who is absent in the written exam is considered absent in the course exam and no grades are recorded in this regard.

 

Formation of the judging and discussion committee

Formation is supported by:

1- Department Council: (Paragraph 11 of Article 55 of Law No. 49 of 1972 AD).

2- College Graduate Studies and Research Committee: (Paragraph 8 of Article 29 of the executive regulations.

3 College Council: (Paragraph 19 of Article 41 of Law 49 of 1972 AD).

4- Accreditation from Prof. Dr. / Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research:

(Paragraph 6 of Article 20 of the executive regulations).

Article (104) of the executive regulations: Quantum and discussion

Article (104) of the executive regulations: a

The College Council forms a committee for judging the thesis of three members, one of whom is the supervisor of the thesis and the other two members are from among the professors and assistant professors in the universities.

It is permissible for the two members or one of them to be former professors or specialists of their scientific level, provided that at least one of them is from outside the college for master’s theses and from outside the university for doctoral theses.

The formation of the judging committee is approved by the Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research.

 Article 105 of the executive regulations: a

The theses are discussed publicly, and each member of the judging committee submits a detailed scientific report on the thesis and the outcome of the discussion. All of them are presented to the College Graduate Studies and Research Committee, then the College Council, in preparation for presentation to the University Council.

The University Council, Session No. (128) on 12/27/2017 approved the proposal of the Postgraduate Studies and Research Council on 12/25/2017:

– Prohibition of arbitration of scientific theses in the Cairo rest house, except in extreme cases and with the approval of the university president

Recording and documenting the scientific discussions of the theses to benefit from them and to be with the knowledge of the Graduate Studies Department in each college and to deliver a copy on CD of the discussion

Taking into account the non-participation of the fourth degree of relatives in supervising and forming arbitration committees for master’s and doctoral theses for the researcher, the supervisory board, and the arbitration and discussion board

Consider not choosing arbitrators from one university.

 There is a disagreement between the moderators about the validity of the message for discussion

The University Council, in its session held on 4/30/2017, approved:

The teacher’s opinion should be advisory, and the opinion and decision regarding the validity of the thesis belong to the main supervisor.

Regarding the kinship relationship between one of the supervisors and some of them

The University Council, Session No. (128) on 12/27/2017 approved the proposal of the Postgraduate Studies and Research Council on 12/25/2017:

Taking into account the non-participation of the fourth degree of relatives in the supervision and the formation of arbitration committees for master’s and doctoral theses for the researcher, the supervisory board, and the arbitration and discussion board

Publish research extracted from master’s and doctoral dissertations

The University Council decided in its session (133) on May 28, 2018:

For a master’s student, one research has been published in a peer-reviewed, specialized, or accepted scientific journal.

For a PhD student, he has published two research papers in a peer-reviewed, specialized, or accepted scientific journal.
